In this newsletter we will show you a really interesting customer case; how Usiminas in Brazil has managed to produce flat plates directly from quenching and reduced scrap to a very low level. It has taken some time, but savings are great!
Shapeline´s investments in China also show results. Two more flatness gauges for high quality plates are now successfully up and running. Read about them below.
We also intensify our sales in North America with a new network of sales people. Meet us in Indianapolis at the AISTech show in early May in Booth 945 and our complete network at our hospitality suite. You will find the invitation in this newsletter.
Hope to see you all soon!
Very best regards,
Vice President, Mgr. Marketing and Sales
Usiminas reduces plate processing by flatness measurement
Usiminas Ipatinga, Brazil installed a new processing line for heavy plates in 2010 inclusive of three Shapeline flatness measurement gauges. The line consists of one plate quenching line, two shearing lines and one leveling line. With the help from plate flatness measurement systems, Usiminas has been able to systematically improve the heat-treatment and quenching of the plates. The result of this work has been a reduced need for leveling to only 20 % of the plates. In addition, the number of leveling passes has been reduced from 7 to normally 1-3 passes. Since the overall plate flatness is so high, only 0.07 % of the plates now need to be scrapped due to flatness.
